ANALYSES

Inspection and Control of the Path of a Sealant Paste

Inspection and control of the path of a sealing paste It provides a reliable and precise test, with exceptional results and an integrated data collection system for evaluations related to modifications or updates. The inspection and control system is adaptable to various sealant component materials and equally diverse surfaces.

An example of an obstacle in analyzing a section of sealant placed on a metal material arises from the various light reflections that can occur during acquisition. This phenomenon can impair resolution, especially in a two-dimensional system with external lighting. Special software modifications circumvent this problem, ensuring maximum precision and reliability. The same can also occur in 3D systems, where reflections prevent perfect acquisition of the sealant. Image reconstruction is also handled by the vision software. Thanks to special filters or dedicated tools, in cases where acquisition losses due to light reflections on the sealant occur, a clear image can be reconstructed that corresponds to reality. Numerous information can be extracted from sealant inspection and testing: sealant height, length, section area, volume, continuity in the path, etc. However, each piece of information has constraints at an instrumental level, not all vision systems can extrapolate them, that's why SoftSystem offers custom solutions for every type of information.

OFFER

Solutions

Softsystem offers a variety of solutions based on the customer's inspection requirements. Multiple vision systems have been developed for sealant inspection and testing, such as:

  • 2D matrix cameras: a fast and precise system for detecting the continuity and width of the sealant path. A single acquisition allows the entire sealant path to be checked. The metal base is positioned under the vision system, integrated with illuminators, and the inspection cycle is initiated. The trigger can be given either manually by an operator or automatically by a line management system.
  • 3D Profilometer: It is a system capable of acquiring the entire dimensions of the sealant. A peculiarity is the possibility, thanks to the special software created by SoftSystem, to analyze the sealant section with a step of approximately 0.5 mm. Unlike a 2D system where it is possible, with a single acquisition, to maintain excellent resolution and have a framed area of different sizes, in this case it is necessary to break the path into several parts depending on the length of the path. Furthermore, a robotic system is required that can transport the profit along the entire route.
  • Stroboscopic Camera for 3D acquisitions: It was designed to acquire high-resolution 3D images that, when combined with 3D vision tools and software, enable reliable and accurate solutions for a variety of applications in different industrial sectors, such as the automotive industry. Thanks to the large image region, the entire sealing path can be acquired at a speed of 200 msec and analyzed in 3D, enabling higher productivity and shorter cycle times for in-line applications with limited lead times. This type of stereoscopic vision camera provides high-resolution images constructed from a 3D point cloud. With this application, all the checks of the two previous systems are guaranteed at a faster speed than a 3D profilometer.
